How to Cook Bratwurst

Updated: Aug 30

I have a quick and easy post for you this Monday, and that is how to cook bratwurst!

If you, like me, avoid cooking brats because you end up burning them before the center is fully cooked, then this post is for you!

I recently learned an easy and foolproof way to cook brats so that the outside gets nice and crispy, while fully cooking the inside. Here's how!

You will need:

  • Brats

  • Water

  • Butter

How to cook bratwurst:

1. Add 1.5 cups water and 3 tablespoons butter to a deep saucepan. Bring to a boil

2. Once boiling, add your bratwurst. Cook, flipping every 5-7 minutes, until the water has fully evaporated. The boiling water is what will cook the inside of the bratwurst.

3. Now that the water has evaporated, your brats will begin to brown on the outside as they fry in the butter that remains in the pan. Continue cooking, flipping brats every so often to get nice color and crispy texture on the outside.

4. Since the bratwurst is fully cooked from the boiling step, once they are brown and crispy on the outside, you are ready to eat! Enjoy!

Since I learned how to easily cook bratwurst, it is definitely back on my meal plan list. I like to serve it alongside homemade sauerkraut on a nice hoagie roll.

You know you are really leaning into that housewife role when learning a cool cooking trick excites you! Let me know in the comments if you knew this neat trick for how to cook bratwurst, or if you have any other cooking hacks that changed the way you cook!

See you next Monday,

Mary
